Weekend classes
Saturday & Sunday batches at Elite Nest Play School, Gandhi Nagar, Porur.
Mayura Natyalaya is a school of classical Bharatanatyam in Porur, Chennai, teaching the Pandanallur style to children from the age of five, teens and adults. It is led by twin sisters Smt. Aishwarya and Smt. Soundharya, disciples of Kalaimamani Guru Smt. Charulatha Jayaraman, who bring more than fifteen years of teaching and performance experience.
At Mayura Natyalaya the twin sisters share the Bharatanatyam they were taught: rigorous in technique, rooted in music and expressive in abhinaya. Between them they have more than fifteen years of teaching and performance experience, and they have taught students of all ages both online and in person.
Their classes are known for personal attention, patient and structured teaching, and a genuine love for the art. Every student, from a five-year-old beginner to an adult preparing for the stage, is taught directly by them.

Guru Kalaimamani Smt. Charulatha Jayaraman has carved a niche for herself among the new generation of Bharatanatyam exponents. She is an outstanding, award-winning performer and teacher, and the recipient of the Government of Tamil Nadu's Kalaimamani award.
She is the founder and Artistic Director of Shrishti School of Performing Arts in Orange County, California. A Nattuvangam exponent, she is an ardent disciple of Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee Guru Smt. Indira Rajan, a nattuvanar par excellence.
“Shrishti aspires to serve both Indian and American communities to help forge a greater understanding of the cultural impact of arts.”
Bharatanatyam is passed on in person, from guru to student, across generations. Each line of teachers — a bani — keeps its own way of executing adavus, structuring items and approaching abhinaya.

Mayura Natyalaya teaches the Pandanallur style, one of the best-known traditional banis of Bharatanatyam, known for its geometric precision, deep araimandi and clean, dignified lines. Read more about the history of Bharatanatyam and the dancers who shaped it.
Mayura means peacock, a bird long associated with grace and with dance in Indian art. It is also the name of one of the single-hand gestures in Bharatanatyam, the Mayura hasta.
